So, I’d love to start my own small Internet blog, and I want to make it without any extra software, just plain HTML+CSS, maybe some PHP for convenience.

I have near-zero experience in programming (yes I know HTML is not programming language, but you get the point), and I just finished a wonderful starting guide, HTML For People. I loved it a lot, but it only covers the absolute basics, and I’d love to have a deeper dive.

Are there any HTML, CSS, PHP guides that are free, text-based (so, not YouTube videos), and give more than the very basics? Would love to hear your recommendations!

      it’s been a long while since i’ve messed around with any of it seriously, so forgive me for being outdated 😅 but i remember enjoying the stucture of the ... for Dummies books

      as for themes, i remember buying a few from creative-tim.com for various projects after dissecting their free ones

        Thanks! For Dummies guides are pretty amazing, didn’t know they had one about HTML+CSS :)

        Will also look into themes! Currently looking into html5up.net as my inspiration, but kinda want to make my own in the end.

          for sure. the workflow i would suggest is:

          1. read / study references
          2. deploy a theme you like, poke at it and play with it
          3. try to rebuild it from scratch using current knowledge. copy/paste not allowed
          4. consult reference materials for parts you get hung up on
          5. repeat until functional
          6. polish and stylize

          it’s how i did it when i was a kid; but again, this may be an archaic approach compared to modern standards
