It’s not just Tesla though, it’s all brands and regardless of whether it’s an ICE/PHEV or BEV.
The only important difference is that older, unconnected ICE cars exist, while older, unconnected EVs don’t. It annoys me that I can’t own an EV because of it.
They do. My Nissan leaf doesn’t have any connection. It’s a 2018.
Tesla has the biggest “network” of connected vehicles, and are hated and despised by many so are a likely first target…
Though you’re right, and I won’t own any internet connected car, regardless of make, model, gender, or method of propulsion. Hell I don’t even drive an Automatic Transmission.
No they don’t, their market share of all cars sold globally within the last decade is far from the biggest.
I think this may be a bubble we’re in. The vast majority seems to not really care either positively or negatively about Tesla. It’s just a car to them.
I think I mean they have the largest percentage of their cars that are connected to the same homebase… Like…all of them.
Tesla may have the largest percentage of their own cars connected, but they don’t have the most number of connected cars. That would likely be GM with their 30 year old Onstar service.
Tesla has only sold 8.9 million vehicles over the whole life of the company, while GM has over 12 million Onstar connected cars sold.
Valid point… And yes, Onstar is a huge vulnerability…as is pointed out in every movie where a car gets hacked for one reason or another. ;-)
I’m a ford guy, and in my Mustang, the Sync unit is unplugged, because fuck Sync.
74 million people voted for Trump. They’re the ones.
But they’re also the reason I avoid Tesla’s in traffic… It might be the car, it might be the driver, but it’s a safe bet that something stupid is going to happen.
I share the sentiment, but I prefer disabling the connected features. Physically, if possible.
My son tried to do that in his 2023 Supra…his fucking ignition key stopped working. Apparently they tied a bunch of critical functions through the TCU to make it irreplacable.
Fuckers.
He just has to find and disable the modem theoretically, or kill the antennas to it.
With a Sawzall…
