An acquaintance is someone you know of but rarely interact with. You may be familiar with eachother in a broad sense, but haven’t spent time together. Friends are anything greater than that, but it’s not a singular category. A good friend is not a best friend, and a bad friend can still be a friend when the time is right.

If you’ve got people in your life who’s bond with you is strong enough to put yourself into debt for, knowing they’ll do all they can to make it right after? Then you’ve got some damn great friends.
