Clear River Games, in cooperation with Square Enix, has announced Terranigma, a revival of the 1995 action RPG, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2…
Didn’t think this would ever happen, but one of my favorite childhood games is coming back to modern consoles, and for the first time released in America.
Judging from the trailer, it seems to be a straight port with only the soundtrack touched up and some artwork extras. Which is a bit disappointing, as much as it’s a genuinely great game, it had flaws even back then and the textures don’t really hold up that well. I was hoping for more incentive not to simply emulate it.
Edit: Turns out the “touched up soundtrack” in the trailer was an unattributed fan work and the trailer has been taken down. Ugh, that feels scummy.
under-rated classic. Thinking the bare bones nature of the port is going to hurt it a lot though.
The somewhat sloppy English localization is going to raise some eyebrows too. Guess they didn’t want to bother.
Why is that?
If it doesn’t have a good level of modern polish (hd-2d and the like) why not just emulate it?
Some people might be more comfortable with buying a legit version that easily installs via Steam.
Could be, but I think a chunk of folks are gonna ask what I’m asking. Emulators are stupid easy to run these days, and SNES ones especially have been basically drag and drop for a decade plus
