I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and as a child in the 70s and 80s we had smog warnings where you weren’t allowed outside.
It’s not a big city, but the topography meant that pollution would sometimes get trapped over the city by the surrounding hills. Obviously it’s not like that now, but I’m sure it’s why we all got asthma.
