Better to know and not be able to walk around on your floor (that might have had someone underneath it), than to be able to walk around on your floor (that might have someone underneath it) and not know.
Unfortunately, delusions generally don’t work that way. Even after this proof of nothing under the floorboards, the delusion will persist, potentially slightly changed. Eg, they were under the floor but not now, or now they’re in the attic, etc.
You generally can’t reason someone out of a delusion without significant therapy and/or medication.
