I’ve been in that position for something nowhere near as important as the Linux Kernel. It SUCKS. I don’t want an AI to take over, but I don’t blame him for wanting to step down.
This is a tool whose previous maintainers have apparently stopped working on it, not something that Linus was still involved in maintaining. This isn’t so much him wanting to step down, as him not wanting to step up if someone else with an interest in it might be willing to do so.
Same diff. I’ve also turned down the “do you want to maintain this” call. Still don’t blame him.
