The comic strip is framed so differently though I’m not convinced that’s the reference it’s making.
That’s definitely the reference, I just don’t get the joke.

I think the dog is listening to the voice recording of its late master, missing him.
The praying mantis is also listening to her late husband’s voice - a pun on the fact that she ate him during copulation.
