Well, drawing from feminist theory, it’s all about men being allowed to be rough, dirty, filthy, smelly, loud, taking up space (physical, emotional, whathaveyou), careless, inconsiderate, dominant, whathaveyou without losing legitimacy as real men. Women, on the other hand, especially in Japan but really in any current human society, are forced to be feminine (as per patriarchal norms, the makeup industry’s standards, heterosexual men’s sexual desires, whathaveyou) or else risk losing legitimacy as real women.
