Happy Friday, Inkers!

Your SIMPLE drawings are simply lovely! It was so refreshing and relaxing to take a stroll through your artwork, making me yearn to sit on my big front porch, playing my banjo alongside my cat and watch freshly hung clean laundry sway in the breeze. Sadly, I have neither big front porch nor cat nor laundry line, so I’ll relax and live a peaceful simple life vicariously through you. I do have a banjo sitting in my front room, but my total banjo-playing education consists of watching people play the banjo online and wishing I could conjure up a sound that even remotely resembles music. (My attempts are more likely to make you picture someone torturing an aardvark.) With great banjo music, there’s just something about that twang that makes me want to get up and dance!

I’m guessing I’m not the only one and apparently, Mark Twain was a big banjo-fan, as he has several banjo quotes attributed to him, but famous (recognizing that fame is relative) American folk musician John Hartford summed up the love of the instrument rather nicely: “a banjo will get you through times of no money, but money won’t get you through times of no banjo.”

For this week, turn on some old-time Appalachian folk music, maybe dance a little, and show me your BANJO artwork. If you can actually play the banjo, 10 bonus Inktober points to you!!
