This essay points to antipolitics, the left’s decisive shift from mass party politics to symbolic protests and intellectual criticism. Instead of building a social base and party structure that could compete with Fidesz, especially in the countryside, leftists have poured their energies into critical media outlets and quasi-political parties which largely appeal to civil society in Budapest.
