Uhh, didn’t Leica a return to Earth?
“As the technology to re-enter the atmosphere had not yet been developed, Laika’s survival was never expected.”
Laika and no. Died from overheating.
I prefer to believe she found the Kubrick 2001 trip-out scene up there, and now lives forever as a magic star puppy.
There’s a staaaaar-doooog waiting in the sky!
It was only low earth orbit. It reentered Earth’s atmosphere in April of '58.
So in the end I guess Laika did make it back to earth.
She didn’t even make it to space. Or survive the ignition sequence.
