I don’t know your home life in detail at length, but you clearly don’t sound like you feel supported and I’m sorry you’re experiencing that. It’s perfectly fine for you to seek out friends and mentors that DO make you feel heard, seen, supported, understood, important, etc. - also know that you’ll eventually start your own life and those around you throughout childhood and your 20s will one by one all go away, for the most part, in one way or another. For the better or worse. Just appreciate and foster the good you experience from them while it’s here, and if you can try to ignore or work around the harmful or less helpful stuff. It’s not worth wasting your valuable youth and life in general on people who have abusive tendencies or who even just don’t add value to your life. That’s not to say everyone should benefit you personally, that’s how narcissists and bpd individuals think and behave, that also is problematic, but you can definitely work to cut out people who make your life harder, that’s not only fair, it’s necessary if you are to grow and be healthy as possible later in life.

There are lots of us that wanted to leave and did. There are lots that want to and can’t find the will power to do so. It’s definitely addictive. It was hard for me to quit, I have an addictive personality, but I’ve also given up drinking and smoking entirely without councilors or pharma aids. I think it’s time we regulate it like a dangerous addiction until there’s a change to how the algorithms function, which may be never.

If it was a movie I’d just think it’s yet another boring shitty movie made to get some already wealthy producers and Hollywood executives another vacation home.

The models used aren’t just statistical models that predict the odds of the next weather pattern, temp, events based on historical data anymore, they’re more like actual world weather models like a video game where they render many different models all slightly different and they pick the most reliable, and the nearest outliers to assess the most likely weather. Climate trends changing as more and more energy is injected into the global model from climate change is easily coded into such models. It’s still chaos because climate and weather are affected by so many different variables all at once, that’s why having a slew of different models is useful and necessary. We are still unaware of all the variables, but have enough to be pretty accurate weeks out, but the further out you get, the less accurate the predictions

It’s that, but also what other term is there? No one bothered to invent a more accurate one. It’s not machine learning, we have variations of that, that’s a different mechanism and are for different use cases. Like since trains were invented before cars, but use similar methods of converting organic material into mechanical movements, should we have just called cars trains? Obviously not, they were different enough that they needed different terms. So what terms should we be using for the various forms of “ai”? Just LLM, diffusion model, etc? People can’t remember that, they’re not technically inclined enough.
