Fwiw Microblogverse would pair perfectly with the Threadiverse, plus it says perfectly what it is - an interconnected network of microblogging instances.

But the name will have to come from within rather than enforced from an external source, in order to be adopted by those using it most.

Commenting on the term “Mastoverse” (I’ve also seen “Mastoland”) - I kinda like it! It’s cutesy and fun ☺️.

OTOH, it’s also exclusionary, like all the other software that implements the ActivityPub Protocol that can communicate with Mastodon - Mbin comes to mind, and PieFed is making forays into it, as well as more major Mastodon alternatives, diaspora*, Pleroma/Akkoma, GoToSocial, Misskey/Sharkey, etc. - don’t exist or are entirely irrelevant.

Which numerically speaking may well be true, but it is the opposite of welcoming. I would liken it to calling the Threadiverse as the Lemmyverse, which I see instead as rather a tankie-enriched subset of the former.

Is there some other term for the subset of the Fediverse that represents the user-centric microblogging format? Or is Mastoverse kinda it, even though it doesn’t seem to be used all that much?

Lemmy’s issues are pretty gigantic as well - to the point where many people outright refuse to fund its further development, thus impacting the future of the Threadiverse (one example is the inordinate amount of time spent performing moderation activities rather than actually working on adding features to the codebase).

Anyway, it’s good to have multiple alternative options - having more software implementations of the ActivityPub Protocol is unquestionably a good thing imho.

The social engineering though is NOT a good thing imho - fortunately it’s an option that can be disabled, though unfortunately it is opt-out rather than opt-in, and not transparently handled at all.

There are different parts to Reddit. The largest subs that appear on r/all (or rather pop) are one thing, the small niche subs are another, the interactions with Reddit admins one aspect, the less controversial subjects another, and so on.

The Threadiverse is the same - like if you post the “wrong” thing in a tankie space then you will be brigaded with users following and downvoting you across many communities - they even brag about creating accounts specifically for this purpose, to get around bans (bc “no” means you need to keep pushing, consent be damned!!)

But even if the maximum experience here can be much worse than on Reddit, the average interaction is far kinder and nicer, imho.
