  • Measurements in % by volume, I find ml to be the best option

    1. Distilled water - 60%
    2. Cocamidopropyl betaine - 20%
    3. Decyl Glucoside - 10%
    4. Xanthum gum - 1% dry
    5. Glyserin - 4%
    6. Germall plus - 1%
    7. Fragrance - 4%

Water mixture: In a container mix 1,4 vigorously to incorporate xanthum gum. (Milk frother, mixer, drill with whisk, it takes a lot because dry xg is hydrophobic) set aside for ~20min, stir periodically to disperse chunks.

Soap mixture: In a a second container, fold together 2,3,5,6,7 gently with spatula to avoid bubbles.

When water mixture is sufficiently gloopy, mix vigorously until masses have broken up and mixture is thick but smooth. (Not nessesary but fun and makes for better texture.)

In the bottle you plan to use (soap bottle, ketchup bottle with squeeze top, really anything with a set volume and lid.) Add soap mix to 39% of final volume. Add water mix to fill remaining 61% volume.

Close bottle tightly and shake vigorously until contents combined.

    Notes:

    • Bubbles in soap mixture last 2 weeks before returning to jell form. DO NOT MIX IN BUBBLES it wastes ingredients.
    • Use “cosmetic grade” Essential oil, it’s formulated for skin contact.
    • Final mixture will change color over the first 24hrs, to match the color of the oil added for fragrance. Ask a scientist why, I just know it’s safe.
    • texture can be modified with changes to xanthum gum amount. More gum=more slime
    • test fragrants on skin before committing, it’s the most likely to react to.
    • some fragrants are very weak in this mix. You can just add more.

I’m not a scientist or professional so look up each chemical and make sure you’re not allergic, these are supposed to be the least likely to be allergic to, but I’m not your doctor and I don’t know you.

  • Ive been making my own liquid body for about 6 months and it doesn’t include castil soap or putting bar soap in water. All the ingredients are available online and the end result comes out to a fraction of the price of store bought. It’s also a great option for allergen control as all 7 of the ingredients are low reactives.

I’m currently pushing into shampoo and conditioner, both are a little more work than the body wash as they need to be heated and ph balanced. If my research is correct, all three can be made as concentrates for long term storage and all you have to do is add it to the water and xanthum gum before use.

If you’re interested in getting into it, hit me up and I’ll give you the deets. I have incredibly specific preferences in texture, smell, and experience so it’s not perfect by my standards, but it’s fucking amazing compared to buying it at the store and I’ve wanted root beer scented body wash since I was a child. Plus, you don’t need anything special for the body wash, I mix it in a 4 cup measuring cup and put it in aldi Condament bottles.

  • Unions are fantastic. The problem here is that after spending 2k and a year learning, I was told that the only way I could get the apprenticeship hours needed to get licensed is to spend another 2k and another year going to a different school for the exact same class using the exact same books because no one in my area will take you on unless you use this school.

I cannot test out, I cannot transfer credit, I cannot skip it. Because this is the standard in place and going against it violates their agreements with the union, I cannot work in my city. I’m all for unions, but any organization can be corrupted and this is exactly what it is.

  • I’m a trained electrician. Despite taking and passing a reputable school for it, I can’t get licensed to do it in my state because you have to have 2 years apprenticeship. You get an apprenticeship you have to go through a school supported by the union. The only school supported is the one they own.

Despite being fully capable of wiring a building to code, installing a solar array or electric car chargers I can’t do shit with the information and it way a year and $2k fucking wasted.
