  • I have a nice display cabinet for all my pretty rocks. Got them really cheap at an epic hippie crystal joint. The store was full of stones. They’re not “jewellery grade”, but they still look great and people ask about them. Fuck yeah I love rocks.

I’m probably committing some spiritual crime by putting the citrine next to my amethyst and emerald. I didn’t memorise the instruction manual though.

  • It’s fucking gross.

I always wipe down every seat with enough toilet paper I feel like I’m not going to directly touch any pee. It’s just an ingrained habit from decades of living with people who like their toilet seats cold, moist, and yellow.

My least favourite is when it seems like they didn’t even pull back the foreskin or something, and just completely cover the entire toilet, seat, and floor, with a fine spray of urine. Lovely. I wipe down everything with like 20 squares of tp and then wash my hands before even doing my business.

  • Yes, this is normal in China; it’s only a problem for tourists at the start. Not saying it’s a good system, just that this is how it’s done over there. “When in Rome” and all that. For example, there’s toilets you can only access by using the WeChat app, and if you make a mess, they can track you down and fine you. It’s more like “your entire digital existence” rather than"just an app."

When I visited Japan, I thought it was cool that you could buy food, drink, and pretty much anything with your train card. The down side is that I now have a bunch of money permanently trapped in that card lol

  • Just as an anecdote, I wrote professional medical software that people purchased. At one point there was a browser API change that would negatively affect customers in a critical workflow, I forget the specifics. I think it had something to do with file uploads. Anyway, I worked around this by creating a small browser extension that people could install that would restore previous functionality.

Less than 0.01% of customers installed it. Maybe 10 people. Not even the loudest complainers installed it. It was a massive waste of time.

In the post mortum, we discovered that it’s a complicated and strange process for average people to install an extension at all. They have no experience with it, and they don’t know how to do it, and they didn’t want to do it. It’s not like installing an app, which is a more familiar process.

The only analogue I can think of in a similar situation is something like Steam Inventory Helper which is widely used with over a million users. But the demographic is vastly different, these people are PC gamers and used to modding files and such.

So really it depends on your demographic, and whether you truly need it. Just realise it will be a great filter.
