They arnt hitting the same notes all the time by accident. The people receiving this are on a spectrum that includes the unaware, the people making it are not.

It seems like some people are maybe thinking of the 80s here. Console games were big business, popular, and widespread from the NES onward, at least among younger audiences.
You didnt see many scalpers mostly because there was less random zero day hype. You got your video game ads in a magazine, so if a game had big hype it was because the publisher had spent big on marketing, which meant they had printed a shit ton of launch day copies, and there would be pallets of them sitting at your local Best Buy, Walmart, Circuit City, etc.
You can drop a mouse down a mineshaft and it can survive the landing, but a skyscraper has cross winds, which could easily get it moving laterally too fast to survive. A hamster is considerably larger than a mouse though, and just because a mouse could survive doesnt mean a hamster would.
They will eventually, but they should really be in lockstep already with November just around the corner. This is some June behavior, when everyone differentiates themselves with some popular but brave populist stance they never plan to follow through on, not late September.
