As someone who has never lived outside of Illinois except for a very brief time- I would guess it doesn’t matter as much what state you live in so long as you live in or close to a major metro area, like Chicago for me, where you can benefit from democrat policy and experience different cultures.

Basically look at a population density map, or of counties that voted dem (who ran again?) over Trump, and you will find better neighborhoods, better schools, better infrastructure, and higher cost of living of course because nice things aren’t free. These are the places in the USA you’d want to live.

I would rather live in one of Texas’ big cities than a small town in any state. Rural or small town areas are depressing and the people who have lived their whole lives in it have no idea.

Don’t feel bad. My neighbors aren’t opting to starve, just fortunately live in an area with enough food resources that even in the lowest national income bracket we can be somewhat choosy.

I’ve thought about making bulk pet food out of all the waste, because presently it just accumulates until the pyramid gets ridiculous and has to be thrown out, but it’s always there in the lobby just in case someone is at that point of mental illness or just broken in spirit that it might be their last resort. Or maybe their recipe calls for 10 pounds of of chic peas. Eh.

As someone who lives in a highrise full of impoverished people, please stop pranking us with canned goods.

We have a pyramid of both canned and dry beans in the lobby. No one actually eats them, they just get thrown out to make room for more nonperishable goods the next food bank run.

I’d guess about 20% of what actually comes from food pantries and donations gets used and that’s from perishable/frozen goods. We didn’t get to this level of poverty by being pragmatic and resourceful.

Good citizens don’t have such absolutist takes like this. I hope you see how this attitude is just as dumbed as someone who thinks cars are the only solution.

My guy, the people I know that actually cycle, and are about that life, are either privileged enough to exist in a neighborhood that has enough tax funds to bother with any cycling infrastructure (see: privilege, biking is more convenient in these areas) or are so beaten down by the system they cannot purchase a vehicle, maintenance, insurance, and biking is their only option.

You are not only shifting the responsibility of climate change from the uber wealthy to the average citizen trying to not starve themselves or their families in this capitalist hellscape (that doesn’t disappear by the good feels of well meaning people), but are detached from reality while doing so.

I’m guessing you’re not part of any active revolution against your state to change things because it’s inconvenient and bitching about normal people gives you some comfort that you’re actually doing something… but even though the odds are against you, I recommend you go try and change the world from the top with those grandiose ideals, those slim odds are higher than whatever it is you’re doing.

The worst is I could smoke 4 full strength hand rolled cigarettes, with all the harm of tobacco, and still be craving a single boxed cigarette because the additives and poisons they mix are missing from my bagged tobacco.

Truly, no progress of any sort was ever made in between the 1800s and 2000s in capitalist USA.
