I remember I was let go and I remember apologizing to them, like I did something wrong. I don’t know why I did but in that moment I was so caught off guard and shocked that it’s all I could say. Show no emotion is hard when they just collapsed your world around you

What a great way to be blacklisted and ruin not just your job, but career too.
Huge advice for a junior right here. Juniors lie - a lot. They’re afraid that not knowing something is bad.
OP, don’t lie. Admit when you don’t know something. You counter this by being inquisitive. If they ask if you know something but don’t ask them what it is. Is it like this other thing? How do they use it? That’s how you win the interview. No one knows everything, but they want someone who can learn.
Also, completely separate, don’t make jokes. That’s just personal advice, but I made jokes when I was younger. They don’t land, it’s not the place.
- Scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.techtoAsk Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do people even mean by "If you don't use AI, you'll fall behind"?English7·3 days ago
Spot on. Juniors or business using AI to write code is terrifying. A senior using it can help with some of the boilerplate bullshit. That’s what they mean by use it as a tool.
Asfor left behind, its because companies are mandating it, and if you refuse to use it, they’ll happily hire the next person who will.

I used to be Xbox, bit as I became more and more of focused I ended up building a pc for the livingroom, with steam big picture and a controller. Rdr2 is a big TV game for me, weird to play at a desk
- Scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.techtoAsk Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats the most boring unpopular opinion?English6·3 days ago
Agree, and as an adult who enjoys comic book movies. I also like really good cinema. Liking good movies does not mean movies that aren’t winning Oscars are all bad. It means you’re just a gatekeeper.
I can sit down and watch a movie like the Brutalist or the Whale absolutely lose my shit at them.
But sometimes I don’t feel like being emotionally destroyed and just want good guys punching bad guys with predictable plot.
Humans are complex and sometimes you may like one and other times the other, there is no “you can’t like X movie”. Only gatekeepers think that way.

Ah got it. Sorry to be pc master race but that’s why I didn’t notice. Although their hdr implementation leaves a lot to be desired

Which could have been mitigated if the big railroad monopolies had electrified their rail like other large freight railroads but noooo no investment only squeezing profits.

Hey OP. I’ve been there, I’m sorry if it happens. Top comments here already have great advice. Take notes, DOWNLOAD YOUR ANNUAL REVIEWS NOW, make sure you can log into all hr sites on your personal laptop, makes w2 easier and 401k.
Not a lot of people are talking emotionally though. If you’ve never been laid off and this is your first, I want to prep you that this is going to hit hard. You don’t think so now, but you’re about to have massive emotional swings.
The first will be intense numbness and lonliness as you lose access/walk out. You will feel incredibly alone as your world is shut out. I want you to know that you are not alone, there are those who care for you. Tell your significant other, friend, even your mom. Reach out, talk to people if you need to. Ask someone if they want to meet for lunch. Try not to be alone all day. It will level set you and they’ll help. You’ll feel like you’re lost, but knowing people are still there helps immensely.
Don’t try to figure out your life that day. You have a great tenure of 7 years. You are allowed to take a break! Obviously I don’t know your finances, but I would take a week if you can, or minimum 24 hours before starting to think about your next role. You may feel panicky, like you have to get started, that’s normal, but fight that urge. Any plan you make in that state is going to be garbage anyway and you’ll need to redo it. Don’t do your resume yet, don’t start applying, just do something you enjoy. Hobbies, games, family time. It will also help center you.
This is a traumatic experience. No its or buts about it, its a feeling that still haunts me a year later. I still have intrusive thoughts of was I good enough, am I a failure, why was it me? It’s something I deal with, and I hope that at least in those first few days my advice will keep you moving.
Feel for you friend, I’ve seen it

Grand Theft Auto is a video game franchise built around criminal activity," Cordero-Stutz said in a statement (via the Miami Herald). "Its fictional world includes murder, robbery, drug trafficking, carjacking, violence against law enforcement, and other conduct that the men and women of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office work every single day to prevent.
Ah so he would be equally upset promoting movies or tv shows who show any crimes. Nuance and satire are not a thing for this man. See now Hollywood, Miami doesn’t need anything filmed in their city.
Such an obvious ploy to try and convince the oearl clutchers to vote for him for mayor. Even though this is a very unique thing to bring in tourists.
But no a train and plane wrap, and a place for selfies and influencers will bring Miami into chaos.

I’ll be honest, does rdr2 need a next gen update? Or is this a specific release for ps5 or something?
Personally I don’t play GTA 5 online, but I like how Alana Pearce put it. I don’t like it, not my thing, but it’s just a money printer that lets rockstar make whatever they want to with near unlimited budgets. So thanks to those who buy shark cards and micro transactions so we can have masterpieces like GTA and rdr
- Scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.techtoGames@lemmy.world•I'm sick of hearing and even reading about GTA 6English21·4 days ago
Fully agree. It’s the zeitgeist right now, it’s the biggest gaming moment in a long time, and while the hate of crunch and union busting is real, rockstar has a solid track record of near perfect games. Few of them, but near if not actually perfect. Guaranteed most people here complaining will pick it up after a while and justify it to themselves.
- Scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.techtoGames@lemmy.world•I'm sick of hearing and even reading about GTA 6English73·4 days ago
It’s that it’s not downvoting at this point. It’s brigading. That’s what I’m really annoyed at. It’s not that people disagree, it’s that everyone dogpiles on because GTA bad must hit downvote to send it to -1000. That ruins it for those who do want to enjoy it and makes it harder to see, and then we can’t have an honest conversation about it until someone posts “hey it’s kind of annoying that it’s being brigaded”
- Scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.techtoGames@lemmy.world•I'm sick of hearing and even reading about GTA 6English106·4 days ago
I actually do agree with you. I am tired of people only complaining and brigading on anything GTA. Its so cringey to me, they could simply ignore the content, but instead have to make sure everyone knows they’re on the Lemmy bandwagon. They’re hipsters, plain and simple. They are too cool for the next star wars and biggest game of the decade, and they have to make sure eeeeveryone knows this. I am excited for the game and wish I could engage more with that side.
- Scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.techtoGames@lemmy.world•I'm sick of hearing and even reading about GTA 6English815·4 days ago
I’ve seen way way way more here on Lemmy bitching about GTA 6 than I have seen actually about it. The complaining about rockstar and GTA 6 is probably 80% of all the rockstar content I see here.
