Well, first off, implants were not involved. The lady was known for her chesticles waaay before implants were a thing. She may or may not have had some kind of implants later in life to keep her existing measurements, but they were the same size in the oldest pictures of her as an adult. I don’t know about anything later in life, but i do know that boobs like that exist naturally, and that she started with that.

I’m not sure where folks get the idea she had implants when pictures exist like that.

Anyway, it’s kind of a tripartite thing. Music, charity/beliefs, and personality.

Musically, she’s one of the better songwriters out there. She was on par with, or better than, anyone of her generation for sure. Part of that was her ability to use her real life to make songs that resonated with a lot of people.

Her voice shifted a lot as she aged, but she was well loved for both the sweetness she could use, and her gentle vibrato. A high, almost crystalline tone that managed to never be shrill or piercing because she knew how to be delicate with it. You don’t have to like her music to recognize the skill she had with it.

In terms of her public works, she truly believed in doing good. Her book based reading initiative made sure that multiple generations of people grew up not only knowing how to read, but having access to materials that made doing so a normalized and omnipresent thing.

She was an outspoken advocate for “loving thy neighbor”. She was one of the celebrities that was behind gay marriage, and equal rights for gay people. That was also the case for trans people.

In other words, she practiced what she preached. She made a ton of money between her music and related business ventures, but she was willing to put it to work doing good things without making it missionary work. She didn’t just hand out bibles like some supposed reading initiatives do. Despite having a deep faith, she never pushed it on anyone.

And, importantly, that wasn’t just her public face. In her private life, she was well known for doing good acts for their own sake, even when nobody would know about it. But you talk to people from around where she lived and worked, and her generosity is legendary. Again, generosity without strings.

She also was known for having hiring policies with her businesses that were inclusive. Orientation, race, gender, nobody was excluded. And, again, it wasn’t just a front, because it wasn’t something she made a big deal out of. That was just how things were.

Then it comes down to her. She was a larger than life performer. When she was being DOLLY, she put forward the brighter, flashier side of her self, but in interviews and in person, she was open and honest and nice. She treated people well, and did so with no ego, and a down-to-earth simplicity that often belied how sharp she was. She had an almost self deprecating way of handling being famous, and that’s how she really was. She didn’t think of herself as being special, she was just grateful to have the chance to do something she loved and was good at.

Now, I never met her. But I know a ton of people that did. And I know a ton of people that had access to books as a kid due to her charity efforts. That’s going back decades, and it was not really a well known thing until maybe fifteen years ago or so.

Everything you hear about her from people that knew her, that had regular contact with her, it’s all about how damn good she treated everyone.

There’s places in Tennessee in specific that when people call her a saint, they aren’t just being nice. There’s folks that have been touched by her good works and place her on a much higher pedestal than she ever would have. Which kinda sums it all up. She never abandoned being a simple mountain girl, no matter how famous or rich she got, and she lifted others up along the way.

Me? I grew up hearing her music, but didn’t really become a fan until well into adulthood. I loved her as an actress, but it took me a while to “get” her music. Now, I can’t hear her sing without crying a little.

However, by virtue of the nicheness and need of latin, I don’t think it’s a good dad joke. It’s a multilingual pun, and those tend to fall outside of the level of accessibility a dad can reasonably expect to pull off.

I think it’s still under the tipping point. The more fans use it, the more it’ll be good for fandoms, but it sometimes takes more fans onboarding and the thing they’re a fan of also at least nominally present for it to match the numbers of other platforms.

But in terms of functionality for fandoms, it’s as good as twitter was. It doesn’t have the same purpose as tumblr or Facebook, so those can’t be directly compared. I would say that in terms of what a fan base could use Mastodon for, it matches or exceeds Facebook simply by virtue of not being corporate, which means no artificial barricades. Tumblr is its own thing though, and it isn’t going to be 1:1 with lemmy/piefed or Mastodon. The use case just isn’t close enough.

There are fandoms present on Mastodon, mostly anime based, and the hashtag system works well for that, imo.

Mastodon is her better at things like updates in the way you mentioned, and it’s easier to build a purpose focused # than it is to build a community on lemmy.

You’ve also got different character limits, so you end up with most posts and responses being easier to follow; just hit the # in question, and you’ll end up with concise responses. Which isn’t better than a longer character limit, as it often lacks depth and nuance. It’s different and has benefits though.

It’s also way easier to find relevant imagery on because of the hashtag system. There’s no good way to look up images on lemmy/piefed at all, but Mastodon makes it easy, as long as the poster uses #s accurately. Since most do, if you’re into something like birding, you can find specific birds by a # search. That’s the best example, but it applies to damn near any subject matter.

I’d also argue that it’s a better system for artists and writers overall, as long as they have their own places where they keep their works. You can’t drop short stories on most Mastodon instances, and big image files of art tend to not be ideal. But being able to put your stuff in a single repository of some sort and just link it via a toot for anyone that’s a fan is superb.

Part of that (the cut placement) is making the prosthetics though. Yeah, you can make good looking cuts elsewhere, but the more the site moves, the more hassle it is. Facial prosthetics in particular run into trouble when they’re near the mouth or brows. So you end up with cheeks being preferred overall.

With the body, you run into issues with making something visible, movable, and believable. Gashes across the abs fail at all three, whereas shoulder and pecs are solid choices. Legs would be too, but they’re not in frame as much, and shouldn’t be without a good reason.

Everything on screen is a compromise of some sort.

Generally, you want to hit soft with hard, and hard with soft.

Unless it’s elbows. You really aren’t going to injure an elbow on a skull the way you would a fist or foot. Might not feel good, but it ain’t gonna break.

The drawback is that you gotta get closer with elbows. Doing that vs someone you’re not familiar with can backfire when they throw some stripe of jujutsu on your ass. So, you know, don’t get jitzed. Mind you, elbows are faster in close, so they’re harder to counter when grappling, so enough training vs grapplers, and you end up with an advantage.

So, I’m saying: cross train with resistive partners.

Yeah, almost guaranteed. Won’t necessarily offer it as a service, though the vast majority should. But any proper professional would know what it is, and likely know how.

There’s some degree of variation in techniques, but that is likely what you were getting. Deep tissue can outright hurt, but the goal is to get into the muscles where hard tension is and unkink it. It uses steady, usually slow, but forceful pressure to really get past the surface.

Which is why not everyone will offer it. It is very demanding for the practitioner, and patients may or may not actually want it, and just think they do lol. My hands can’t do it any more. Hell, I can’t always pull off the easier stuff. Arthritis sucks lol.

Well, there’s different kinds of massage.

The generic spa-style massage is more about relaxation, and is done in a setting that shifts the context to being fairly impersonal.

More medically focused, or sports focused (lot of overlap there) massage is being done with a goal in mind, usually in a setting that also makes it feel less intimate than it might otherwise (even with the same technique involved).

Just as an example, I trained up in a handful of massage methods over the years. Lymphatic release, myofascial release, deep tissue, a variant of shiatsu, and the bog standard “just rub the muscles that are tense” kind that isn’t really a technique/style at all. What would be used depended on my patients’ needs and preferences.

Deep tissue, I really never broke out on patients though. A few, but it was rare. That was more for friends that were in need due to muscle issues.

Myofascial release is superb for people with reduced mobility and/or spacicity since out favors fairly gentle pressure that directly unloads where the muscles connect.

Your lymphatic release is also low pressure, and is kind of the default for both a post-workout massage as well as geriatric patients and bedbound patients. It focuses on moving your juices along to the center of the body sp that associated buildup of wastes will be enhanced

But what remains true is that most massage is best done on bare skin. Not all benefit from lubricants though. Myofascial release, in particular, becomes more difficult and> less effective because you really need to be able to apply focused pressure without movement as part of what you’re doing.

Truth be told though, the types of pathogens involved are fairly low, and they don’t all survive well on hard surfaces.
