Rereading the comment I can see that. Been around some people lately with some rather questionable opinions about this and the first sentence raised some alarms. I see it as transition towards more diverse original stories though, I don’t think anything especially the Hollywood execs would change over night, but maybe I am too hopeful.

Yea, I guess you are right. But I do not think that this is something the federation aspect amplifies, you could say that over legacy social media as well. They are all skewed towards some ideology over another.

Been also checking out PeerTube more serious the last couple of days. I do like how well it integrates with Lemmy/PieFed as well as channels are just Communities on here. I am planning to post a YSK on here, as I am not sure how many know about that. I think for now its also just better (if you do not plan on creating videos yourself) UX wise to mix it with Lemmy opposed to going on PeerTube being greeted by a half empty front page.

With multicomms being a thing in Lemmy 1.0 and clients like Summit already faking it you can easily create a PeerTube feed on here.

Kinda wish bigger YouTube Channels that are already demonetized and rely mostly on Patreon and such would make the jump.

You writing from Mastodon where I definitively agree that federation is more apparent. I stopped using it myself because of that. But on the “threadiverse” I feel like its different as everything is naturally a bit more centralized through the existence of communities. which makes the switch from Reddit to Lemmy not as jarring as Twitter to Mastodon.

Yea, in a really unfun way its actually interesting to see a country turn from a somewhat functioning democracy (taking some liberties here) to a full on authoritarian regime. Hardly the first time, but at least for me i never saw it so in the open and well publicized. I also do not understand why there are no “No Kings”-protests happening every weekend or so. Maybe there is something planned or maybe there are other protests going on that I do not catch from overseas.

I just wish the reason would be a tax on sugar which is then used to subsidise more healthy options. But I don’t believe that to be the case here. :(

I once made a sick trick on my scooter completely destroying the new Halloween decoration made out of porcelain my put up that morning. I was in tears when I told her holding what’s was left in my hands, and braced for the worst. But she told me that its fine and these things are replaceable. I was really confused and didn’t know what to make from it. Deep down I knew I deserved some kind of punishment. To this day I apologise for that.

I’m aware how finicky it sometimes is to subscribe to new communities on other instances. The fediverse (Lemmy+PieFed+Mastodon+everything else) has some technical quirks but for me its a small price to pay for an unbuyable platform.

The obvious problem is that niche comms are not active. I feel like this comes from people expecting or even emulating the same experience as on reddit. But before we even create new niche comms. We should use the more broader ones even if the more broader one is casualconversation or something generic like that. Even some half dead forums feel alive cause they have like only 4 different places to post. And is also how reddit started but people are forcing it to be like it is right now.

And to answer your question no not that I’m aware of :)

There is https://lobste.rs/ which seems to be working well mostly because its invite only. Truth be told Lemmy will eventually also have to close registration and have an forced application form. If we want to keep it as human as it is right now. Don’t think there is any other way of dealing with bots that are eventually going to hit us.

There is also https://tildes.net/ which is less active but more moderated. They also have only broader comms because its more opinionated.

But they all do not federate which is in my eyes a deal breaker. The mods are probably alright but having the option to move instance while keeping most connections and communities only changing the server owners that control what you see is a game changer for me. It even made me post way more than I ever did on reddit because I feel like its more sustainable. You feel like you are part of the network more than on any other platform, because nobody really owns anything. That is what makes this place so special :)

Its honestly so weird to me that Musk did not already do that with him buying himself so deep into politics, owning X and PayPal. It would be so fucking easy, he did say that it would be the plan but somehow he is even bad at being evil.

I feel like the most horrific thing about it all is that the government can just deactivate your account at any moment. Happened to a friend when they were visiting, maybe some connections on the phone they did not like it. They didn’t tell them and it happened automatically after connecting with two locals.

Just FYI: I think since manifest 3 or so you do need explicit permissions to access a sites HTML. And the end user can see which sites the extension has access to. Doesn’t make me install more extension than I really have to though.

When I moved out and started to live on my own in a apartment complex, I was awaken in the middle of the night by something scratching on my apartment door to the stairs. I was too scared to look up what it was and just laid in silence until it stopped. I’m not sure what it was nobody had pets or anything, I kinda regret not looking now. It did have a dreamy vibe to it though so my mind might have just played a trick on me, but maybe I felt that way cause I just woke up. Very unsettling regardless.

I do not get the downvotes. We are not talking about wage slaves for amazon here (where it would obviously apply) but software developers for meta. They most likely have tons in savings they could use and with a resume that gave them the current job I really doubt they are out of options. The current job market is bad Im well aware of that, but its also not like FANG turned evil just yesterday. But in the end its also best to not fight among ourselves.
