I used to buy cigarettes out of a vending machine at the local laundromat, as a child.
And I gave a senior an extra buck behind the convenience store to grab a pack for me when he was grabbing packs for the other kids that had also done the same. I remember one of them was rolling joints and I probably could have bought one of those, too, while I was there, or maybe even something harder.
So the law didn’t stop me from getting smokes despite no machine being involved but it did give me reason to be in contact with people who could get a bunch of other things, too.
