Most republicans honestly believe Trump is in their corner, even now. They think the things he does that screw them over are being done to screw brown people over even more, and that they’ll eventually win the war of attrition and come out better on the other side once all the brown people lose everything and either flee the country or die.

The “I didn’t vote for this” people are the ones who weren’t lucky enough to be able to weather the shitstorm the way they thought they would, and can see that they’re going to lose everything too.

It’s like if God came down and said he was flooding the world again, and only 2 people would be chosen to board the new arc, and 77 million people all celebrated because they were all sure they were one of the 2. And they’ll keep believing that until they drown.

I don’t have any official heirlooms, but I like to bake, and have inherited a few quality vintage mixing bowls that my grandparents - and later my parents - used, so I consider them to be heirlooms at this point.

This is perfect - my wife and I have both been limping along on old falling-apart phones, and have been looking for something new that doesn’t make us feel gross for supporting a major company, and isn’t overloaded with so many nearly-useless features. Decided to take the de-google plunge at the same time, and grabbed the eos ones!

Sure, but being independent is still an important general life skill. You can rely on other people under normal circumstances, and that’s certainly not a bad thing, but there will always be scenarios in life where you need to figure things out for yourself. If you’re paralyzed with anxiety when that happens, that means there’s a skill you unfortunately were unable to learn that is now causing an issue.

My wife’s cousin is in a similar situation. She never left home or got a job or a driver’s license because she was always too scared, and her mom always let that slide, since she didn’t want to make her daughter scared or uncomfortable.

She thought her job was to protect her daughter from all the stresses of the world until she was ready, but failed to understand that she won’t be ready until she’s experienced some of those stresses in a controlled environment like most kids do when they’re in their teens and their parents push them to get a job and a license.

It came from a place of kindness, but ended up being a major mistake that now both the kid and the parent are paying for.

Sure, but they can increase the amount of cops working that night, and make sure that stay near the cameras. Might not make much of a difference in big cities, but smaller towns that only have a few cameras will probably be watched with much more scrutiny.

Yeah. They also love it when there’s a specific date to ensure they have extra patrols nearby. Rebellions need to be unexpected and anonymous - an event that people are encouraged to publicly post about and participate in sounds like a trap.

Anything worth doing is worth reviewing.

The post repeatedly specifies that this is a way to stick it to AI companies, not destroy them. You “stick it” to an entity when you do something that reminds yourself that they don’t have full control over you. They might not even know or care that it’s happening, but you do, and that’s enough.

You can stick it to your parents by sneaking out and drinking, you can stick it to your boss by slacking off whenever they’re not watching, and you can stick it to AI companies by living a fulfilling life outside of the digital space.

Sounds like Atheism, like all belief systems, empowered an asshole with self-righteous validation. Even if you bet on the right horse, it doesn’t mean everything you do is automatically justified; empathy is a higher order law.

There it is. You can choose not to date anyone for any reason, but if you’re smart you won’t tell anyone.
