Ghost comes to mind. I’ve never had a problem with them and a lot of their songs I think are pretty good. Seems like they get shit on a lot though.

I love Ghost’s image, genre and sound. My only complaint is all their songs started sounding the same when I tried to do a straight listen-through of their works.

This is because they seem like they would be a metal band but are not. Ghost doesn’t claim that but some fans do from time to time and it never fails to rage bait metal fans.

Really? I’ve never heard anything bad about them, whenever I hear someone talk about them it’s always very positive

“they’re not ‘heavy metal’, and not really satanic”

People just struggle to put them in a category, and that hurts some people’s brains but I really dig it.

Gotcha. Ghost is a metal pop concept band, where the front man is an ongoing chain of satanic antipopes (while still being the same dude in face paint). Only they are all really bad at converting the world to Satan worship on account of doing the actual work is no fun, and what’s the point of being the satanic antipope if you aren’t gonna have fun.

Sounds great! Only… Metalheads are like “this isn’t metal” and they’re kinda right. Its pop music, but metal and satanic.

Also, the front man may have fucked over his bandmates, or maybe not, depends really. I’m inclined to say his behavior may have been shitty, but that’s something you should work out beforehand.

As a metal head, I didn’t understand Ghost for the longest time. I didn’t hate it, but “this isn’t metal” was my exact thought, lol. Took me a few tries before I finally thought they were “okay”. Then I went to see them live, and now they’re probably in my top 15 bands.

A lot of fellow metal heads out there don’t like it when music is fun enough to be enjoyed by people who don’t keep a closet full of long-sleeved band shirts. A couple years ago I ran into an old coworker at a Fleshgod Apocalypse show and they got angry when I asked if they were interested in tagging along to an upcoming Dethklok show.

I love that it sounds like dark 80s pop. I have a friend that I told square hammer was about Freemasonry because he’s a mason. Took like 2 years of listening to it before he really caught the lyrics.

I just watched the music video, and in that context it’s pretty funny. “Wield the square hammer! It is your destiny!” is hilarious
