No, not really. Firefox and Gecko are crucial for Google to avoid being broken up by regulators. They have to keep Firefox alive for that reason.
True although how true the statement is, in the US at least, is in doubt given the current government leadership and direction.
True but they can’t rely on the US alone. They have to do business elsewhere. Funding Firefox is a ridiculously cheap way of making sure they can operate with impunity everywhere. It’s brilliant, really.
It is bad enough if anti-trust actions get moving against a functional monopoly in the EU. Really bad for business … of the monopolist.
