help-circle

  • The witch hunt vibes seems apt, the maleficarum got really grim in the wake of the printing press and we’ve got new meme makers now and the pitchforks are being sharpened.

The article kinda hits it home, it’s generic hysterical slop and a solid treatment of the matter will likely be available to the public for £300 from an academic press in a year or three if they promise not to share it. Then an llm will eat it and I will be able to get a summary, mixed in with lemmy comments, for my daily token ration from China: the circle of life.

Afaiu it’s somewhat easier to wreck the book and one would imagine there’s a few books cutting about that whilst not yet fully digital are also not on the endangered species list.

Sharing the knowledge for the greater good is a no go I think, especially in the USA. Me or you can do it on slsk but if a rich corp tries to do it they’ll get shafted fast & hard and the massive academic presses will not tolerate upskilling the poor.

  • It’s more that the US is just drunk on ‘the bible’ which seems likely linked to the entire country being carpet bombed in little 66 book KJV’s as a social experiment around the 1800’s and they just can’t stop rewriting it as they need a constant flow of novel Jesuses. This week it’s Mundane Markan Jesus duct taped to some bits from the Pauline corpus for lolz, The Gospel of Bart Ehrman for the masses that stopped going to masses but still need to cling to a personal Jesus.

    I don’t even think Bart’s aware of what’s he’s doing, it’s completely bizarre.

If you hear the meme ‘most scholars agree’ alongside some claim from the SBL, run for the hills.
