It was Stream Energy/Ignite Inc. The energy markets in many US states are open to suppliers other than the utility companies. Ignite/Stream offered bad utility rates with pyramid scheme marketing tactics and eventually were sued. Complaint here
Got convinced by someone I very much trusted to join an MLM as a 19 or 20 year old. After my parents learned about it, they were able to talk some sense into me, and I realized I was part of a pyramid scheme. I got out and basically broke even, which was honestly the best possible outcome of that whole scenario. It unfortunately degraded my relationship with the person who convinced me to join, and I never really could fully trust them after that.
Absolutely! The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks dedicates a portion to transportation, and bikes are definitely the preferred means. Considering you can coast and conserve energy while still outpacing the zombies (assuming shambler’s instead of sprinters), bikes are awesome.

The ones near my home actually work but in different ways based on location. At some intersections they turn on the corresponding walk sign for the pressed button and leave the others as “Don’t Walk”. At an intersection near a school, they turn all traffic lights red and turn on walk signs in all directions.
There is a group in my town who is starting an open letter/petition to the city council to have them removed. I feel like that’s the safer and more lasting way to get them down here. The one pointing towards my home is right next to a school and any kind of tampering would be readily seen and fixed

Yes, I’m a geologist by education and career. I self-host a few different services but keep them all on my LAN. Setting up Netbird is on my to-do list, but I’m simply not confident enough in the network security aspects to expose anything outside of a VPN tunnel.

Paleontology is extremely important in determining the relative age of rock units and features through marker fossils, which are time limited but geographically ubiquitous. Charles Darwin was a geologist first, and his journey on the HMS Beagle allowed him to find various fossils that eventually led him to developing the theory of evolution by natural selection.
There is so much more connection between the two sciences than you might think.
Geology is the superior hard science because it incorporates all others. It is the beautiful combination of math, physics, chemistry, and biology that is far more than the sum of its parts and plays a role in so many parts of daily life that people may not connect to geology.
That’s part of what made it sound good at first. It sounded like a unique opportunity with a “legitimate” company, and I was too young and inexperienced to really understand the implications of it, especially when coming from someone I had known for over a decade and really trusted.
