Is it a crime to pirate books anything? For you yes, not for AI companies.

Is it a crime to install a keylogger on someone else’s device? For you yes, not for AI companies.

Is it a crime to take a product away that a consumer bought? For you yes, not for AI companies.

Corporations are only people when it benefits them to be. All the advantages, none of the accountability.

I get the appeal of this, but I feel this is part of a broader problem of relying on AI for problems that already have elegant, simple solutions. Like relying on LLM’s to tell you what was the last google doc that you viewed is just not sustainable and creates bad habits. Soon people will ask what was the last tab I was just in, instead of using a keyboard shortcut and or having proper tab management.

Imagine using it for your code editor, instead of using the built-in functionality of jump-lists, marks, fuzzy finders and so on… Or switching to an editor that has these things. What file was I just in? Where did I just write this function?

“When asked, the AI even double checks if the document was shared in a group chat with his coworkers.”

How about learning to just use search?

I wonder if at some point we will just get a completely A.I. interface? Like no buttons, no text fields, nothing for people to worry their pretty little heads about and get confused with. You have to describe what you want done to the A.I. who will do it for you. “You missed a comma just after the word ‘backwards’ but before the ‘the’. No not that one… yes you got it. Can you undo your previous change that you did by mistake? God fucking dammit Gemini. Ok I’m sorry, can we keep working?”

So I’m not crazy for running it in my web browser in a private window any time I use it? Good.

I wouldn’t be so sure. One of these nights, two mice are gonna find a way in, one of them will run in the wheel and the other will prompt the AI to help them do the same thing they do every night: Try to take over the world.

So much more work than just private window. Risk isn’t as bad as installing the app, good enough for me.
