I’m really trying. I live in the PNW and love weird shit, but I’ve never been able to stick with Twin Peaks more than a few episodes, and recently had a hard time getting through Blue Velvet, so I think David Lynch just isn’t for me.

Blue Velvet is wild and I understand. I actually found the movie through a FX animation called Stone Quakers where they made an entire episode parodying that movie. It made it more fun. I think the lesson was leablve police work to the police.

Same for me. I tried about a month ago. Shut it off less than half-way through.

TBF, though, I do this with a lot of shows.

Same, but hated every minute of the two eps of tp that I forced myself through.

That, combined with the extremely high praise from a LOT of people leads me to believe that I’m the one not getting it, and that just continues to bother me. I have had multiple people try to explain it to me, one ex even reluctantly gave me away the twist at the end. Nah. Still feels like nails on a chalkboard and then the end going “I meant to do that the whole time”.

Maybe I’ll go at it again, someday. But, until then, people praising it continues to be enigmatic.

Loved Twin Peaks. Watched it with a group of friends back when it was first broadcast. We’d unplug the landline so we weren’t interrupted, break out the coffee and cherry pie, and everyone would shut up and just watch the show. Then we’d try and figure out wtf was going on, sometimes rewatching almost the entire episode and dissecting it. I miss that experience: no other show has come close.

Shame it got cancelled and the last few episodes of season two tried to wrap up something that needed at least one more full season.

The Return is probably some of the finest television ever made. It took a show that was clever and incisive satire and elevated it to it’s own art form. And while that sounds like pretentious comments from a second year film student, I stand by it.

it’s got some surreal banger bits… but also it fucking drags a lot.

when I was younger I did not understand that lots of people were enamored with macglaughin and the mysteriousness but… didn’t really pay off for me, ymmv.

I’m a big fan of other Lynch stuff, so I don’t mind the odder bits, just the pacing of a series probably.

This is exactly the scenario I’ve got with some JRPGs; currently, Trails in the Sky.

Anyone who makes it to its ending adores it. But in fairness, that is a huge and heavy filter on opinions. Sooo much unnecessary dialog and bloat, even a few “Oh, Japan” moments.

Makes me wish for a job as a script editor (game or TV) so I can zero in on innocuous lines like “It was great to meet you” and fuss “This does not add information, or character, or charm!! Skip it!”

I mainly like sci-fi, something that takes me away from the current world and all it’s shit, I’ve heard it was good but I’m not sure it’ll fit into what I enjoy.

This isn’t sci-fi, but it is surreal. You would enjoy the later half of the show, but that would mean sitting through at least 15 episodes that you might not enjoy.

I gave it several one chances, was around for or the initial 90s wave of interest.

Taste is just subjective, I find absolutely no sport in trying to convince others my interests should be theirs, too.

Watching with a friend every other week at the moment. So far we are at S02E08. The first season was a wild ride and we always tried to get together what happened in the last 2 episodes, now we are slowly diving in. It’s definitely a show that is not easy to watch if you don’t binge.

The middle of season 2 is really bad. It picks up again the last 3-4 episodes and the season finale is a banger.
