If we’re being technical, the article is saying someone told the writer that its the dumbest way to do this particular thing.

Normal shoes I’ll do sock/sock shoe/shoe. For lace up calf length boots I’ll do sock/boot sock/boot because it’s a whole process and if I don’t adjust the sock just right it gets super bunched or overly tight on the toesies.

Yeah, I mean it’s not like a lot of those services are already populated by people who are underpaid and overworked because they love what they do and love helping people…

I think UBI is generally seen as something to do instead of that, a way to put off actually providing for people so that they can continue to funnel capital from the regularly well-off to the obscenely well-off while blaming it on the poor and the increasingly shrinking “middle-class”.

Why not do that before UBI?

UBI is a bandaid to keep capitalism propped up by neo-liberals. It’s contingent on the idea that society is dependent on people spending money, rather than getting essential services and enough free time to maintain mental stability.

Wasn’t the latter half basically just him fighting communists for an hour every week? Thats my recollection from trying to watch the series a few years ago. I think k I got up to season 5 or so.

Sure, if you remove the profit motive they wouldn’t provide resources.

Negative emotions are human, but often we arent well equipped to deal with them. If you can deal with them in a mature and responsible manner, congratulations! If not, therapy can get you to that point.

We dont need to journey through everything alone, often a helping hand is necessary to pull you forward.

They are not mutually exclusive.

I see it more as “This is a symptom of greater problems, we need to attack the root cause and not just react to the surface level stuff that’s most obvious”

It doesn’t need it, no, but it makes life a little easier. And in this world of constant demands on our attention and time, making our lives a little easier is a vast blessing.
